Eight events, including two with guaranteed prize pools of $125,000 and $50,000, draw top players seeking large cash prizes, outstanding competition and fun atmosphere.
Poker players from near and far have descended on The Silks Poker Room, which is conducting eight events worth more than $200,000 in guaranteed prize money during the July 2018 Summer Series.
The lucrative competition runs through Sunday, July 22.
“The Summer Series gives area players the opportunity to play a big poker series without having to travel, while providing an incentive for players from other parts of Florida and different states to come here and vie for big money,” said Patrick Murphy, Director of Poker Operations for The Silks Poker Room at Tampa Bay Downs.
“The series is also a great tool for us to showcase our excellent facility and staff and to offer the level of competitive poker most of our players desire,” Murphy added.
The top Summer Series event, which offers a $125,000 guaranteed prize pool, is the No Limit Hold’em Main Event, which runs Thursday through Sunday, July 22. The buy-in is $400 and there will be five flights of qualifying leading to the final.
Those flights will be preceded by a $100 buy-in satellite event at 1 p.m. on Thursday in which one of every five players will qualify for the Main Event.
In addition to the Summer Series, The Silks Poker Room will conduct a house-funded, $100,000 “Bad Beat Jackpot” throughout the first three weeks of July. During that period, the first player to lose with four-of-a-kind 10s or higher will win $50,000, with the winner of the hand receiving $30,000 and every other player dealt in sharing $20,000.
“We definitely think that is going to create a lot of buzz,” Murphy said.
Following the July 12 Summer Series opening event, featuring a $30 buy-in, action heated up the following day with a No Limit Hold’em event offering a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000.
“The last time we held an event similar to this, we had almost 700 players and a prize pool of almost $100,000. So those pools could easily increase,” Murphy said.
Other events throughout the 11 days of competition offer guaranteed prize pools of $10,000 and $5,000.
One event close to Murphy’s heart is the No Limit Hold’em Charity Tournament and Dinner at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with proceeds going to the Jesse Heikkila Foundation, a non-profit organization which raises funds for childhood cancer awareness. The youngster died at age 7 in 2014 after fighting Stage IV Neuroblastoma cancer for five years.
The buy-in for that event is $125, which includes a dinner.
Seniors 50-and-above will get an additional chance to shine Tuesday afternoon in Event 4, a No Limit Hold’em tournament featuring a $160 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of $5,000.
In addition to fattening the bankrolls of participants, the Summer Series reinforces the reputation of The Silks Poker Room as a year-round destination for players of all experience levels and skills.
