TEN COLTS GEAR UP FOR SATURDAY’S $75,000
PASCO
STAKES
OLDSMAR, Fla. (January 26, 2007) The $75,000 Pasco Stakes, a seven furlong test for three-year-olds, begins the local trail to the Tampa Bay Derby with ten contenders entered in the field. Of these ten, there are several notable individuals. Got the Last Laugh will be one of the horses to watch. He’s a Grade III winner and last competed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, in which he had a hard, wide trip. Got the Last Laugh is coming into this race off of a layoff from the stable of top national conditioner William Mott with Tampa Bay Downs leading rider Daniel Centeno in the irons. The colt will break from the seventh hole but has the ability to come from behind- a valuable trait in a field of young horses.
All I Can Get looks to be tough, as he comes out of the very successful Gerald Bennett stable and won at the stake distance of seven furlongs here last time out. He retains Luis Gonzales as his jockey, and is already a winner of two stakes races in his five lifetime starts. Furthermore, All I Can Get has only lost one race in his life and breaks from the second post position, giving him easy access to the rail.
Barkley Sound has the highest Beyer in the field and is coming into the race with a string of impressive wins at Tampa Bay Downs, including the race in which he broke his maiden by 5 ½ lengths. His conditioner Joan Scott, who is no stranger to the winner’s circle, has a 44% in-the-money record for the season thus far. The son of Dixieland Band has only finished out of the money once in his life and is lightly raced.
Saturday will also feature Morning Glory at 10:00 AM in the lower Grandstand. This week track announcer Richard Grunder will host recently named Trainer of the Month Rick Slomkowski, who yesterday led all three of his entries to the winner’s circle. Admission is free and there are always complimentary coffee and donuts, as well as free grandstand re-admission to the track for that afternoon. Gates for Tampa Bay Downs will open tomorrow at 11:00 AM, and the first race will be at 12:25. The Silks Card Room will keep the live poker action going strong from noon through midnight.
