BUSH RIDES 3 WINNERS; GRIN AND FROWN 3 FOR 3 AT TAMPA

OLDSMAR, Fla. (January 17, 2007) Jockey Vernon Bush won three races today, scoring his first victory aboard Madame Lil in the second race.  Madame Lil is a six-year-old mare owned by William R. Pomposelli and trained by Walter J. Durrett.  Singapore Swing, a three-year-old colt out of the Marylou Whitney Stables and saddled today by Reynaldo Abreu, gave Bush his second win.  Bush hit the board for the third time in the day’s closer on Everything’s Bueno, a dark bay or brown gelding owned by Shelly G. Huber and trained by Gregory A. Griffith.

Grin and Frown, a seven-year-old bay horse, won his third race in a row for the current Tampa Bay Downs meet.  Grin and Frown, who is owned by Neal M. Allread and stabled in the barn of Barbara McBride, covered the six furlong starter allowance test in 1:10.54.  Grin and Frown dueled for the lead throughout the six furlong contest, pulling ahead of the rest of the pack in the final quarter of a mile. Jockey Carlos Montalvo piloted the horse home, as he has for both of Grin and Frown’s other starts this meet.  Grin and Frown is now tied for first place as a national leading horse by wins for 2007 according to Equibase.com.

Racing resumes tomorrow, January 18, with a ten-race card.  Tampa Bay Downs’ gates will open at 11:00 AM and post time for the first race is approximately 12:25 PM.  The Silks Card Room will offer live poker action from noon until midnight.

Saturday, January 20th will feature The Gasparilla Stakes, a $60,000 seven-furlong race for fillies three years old.  Saturday is also Hat Giveaway Day, with 7,500 logo caps to be given away with paid admission.
