OLDSMAR, Fla. (October 19, 2009) Tampa Bay Downs is pleased to announce its partnership with the Thoroughbred Retirement of Tampa, Inc. (T.R.O.T.). Thoroughbred Retirement of Tampa, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the safe retirement, rehabilitation, and adoption of Tampa’s racing Thoroughbreds. T.R.O.T. recognizes the potential and worth that retiring Thoroughbreds offer, and is able to assist them transition to the next phase of their lives. With the support of owners, trainers, and the community in conjunction with Tampa Bay Downs, T.R.O.T. raises awareness about the importance of Thoroughbred retirement and works rehome Thoroughbreds whose careers at the racetrack have come to an end.
Tampa Bay Downs supports the Thoroughbred Retirement of Tampa through financial support and works to help trainers and owners communicate with members of the community interested in adopting a Thoroughbred from the racetrack.
Tampa Bay Downs Vice President and General Manager Peter Berube said of the partnership between Tampa Bay Downs and T.R.O.T., “We’re excited that a local organization has emerged to help our Thoroughbreds move on to a new career after retirement from the racing community; and we will continue, as we have in the past, to support similar Thoroughbred charities such as the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and the Grayson Jockey Club Research Foundation.”
